Received this unit in a very well packaged box. Best I have seen for a product this size. There were no dents, scrapes or cracks in the wood pieces. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, only three of the 4 legs actually fit snug. As a hobbyist woodworker, I was able to take it into my workshop and fabricate a small shim to stabilize the fourth leg. The biggest complaint is the metal hook assembly. Do not get me wrong, they are very stout and the attachment to the wood shaft is very sound. The problem is the finish is very poor. Poor in the fact that the units looked as though the finish was applied after the metal had developed major surface corrosion for some time (i.e., left in the rain for weeks). You could actually see and feel the the rust coming through the applied antique finish. So bad that if used as received, any delicate clothing materials (knits, polyester, rayon, etc.) would easily snare on the hooks. I ended up sanding all the corrosion off the hooks and then applying a clearcoat to protect the metal and prevent any further corrosion from developing. Realizing the product was made in China, I expected such a flaw. Over the years, the U.S. has outsourced such products to China, and with it any demand for quality control. Do not expect high quality, especially in anything that deals with metal (China uses a cheaper quality of steel in just about every product I have purchased over the years that originates from China--tools, workbenches, sporting equipment), and any wood product that requires tight tolerances for fit & finish. Also, the actual finish is a one-step stain-topcoat combination. Meaning this is not a stained wood product that is then covered with a clear topcoat finsh. I found this out by accident when I was rubbing down the unit to remove some "gunk" that was on one of the fluted areas, and the finish along an edge rubbed off very easily leaving a untreated bare unstained area. Again, I was able to repair that leading edge with a combination of some hardware store furniture touch up kits. As long as you understand that "China made" equates to "marginal quality", then this product will not disappoint you. If you ask whether I would buy this unit again? Possibly, only because I do not have the jigs and lathe to build my own. It is solid and looks sharp after some woodworking TLC.

I received the coat rack quickly. I contemplated inexpensive coat racks, but questioned the ability to hold heavy coats. This coat rack is well made and heavy (we live in Cleveland) which is good for our winter coats. However,it arrived with a couple (3) of gold paint marks on the wood, along with a scratch. I contacted PowellBarrier and they said I can return it or they would give me money off. I turned the coat rack around so that the painted areas and scratches were less noticable. It would have been nice to actually been given a couple of bucks off for the marks and scratches (they have not actually sent me anything). Bottom line, this is a quality product.

Overall we are very pleased with this product. It looks great and does the job, however, it is a little shaky once put together and does not stay as tight as it should. Nothing a little wood glue won't fix. I would buy again even knowing this.
